LARGO - Three combatants. Four shots. Zero injuries. One suspect, maybe.
That appears to be the tally from a curious incident Friday morning at the Handy Corner Meat Market at 119th Street and Ulmerton Road.
The trouble began shortly before 11 a.m. when two men walked into the market, said Pinellas County sheriff's spokesman Mac McMullen. The pair got into an argument with the store's only other customer. Then one of them punched the customer, knocking him down.
From the floor, the man pulled a gun and fired one shot, McMullen said. The pair ran from the store, heading north on 119th Street.
The armed man followed, firing at least three more shots.
Calls to 911 flooded in. The Greater Ridgecrest branch YMCA and Ridgecrest Elementary School were locked down, McMullen said.
But by the time deputies arrived, the gunman and the men he was chasing were gone, leaving few clues as to what had triggered the episode. By afternoon, however, deputies said they were pursuing a possible suspect.
Back at the market, an employee who declined to give his name said the market would not comment on the shooting.
