Police: Man runs after shooting co-worker's toe

By Times Staff Writer

TAMPA - Police are looking for a Georgia man who they say shot a co-worker in the big toe Thursday evening at an east Tampa Days Inn.

Robert A. Haye, 61, of Atlanta and Johnathan Berry, 25, of Alwrithy, Ga., were attending a meeting with other co-workers at the Days Inn, 2904 Melburne Blvd. Police officials did not know the name of the men's employer but said the company sells products door to door.

Haye and Berry started arguing, and Berry pulled out a .25-caliber gun, aimed it at the floor and fired, according to a Tampa police report.

The bullet hit Haye in his left big toe, said police spokesman Joe Durkin.

Berry ran off. Haye was treated by Tampa Fire Rescue paramedics at the hotel.

Berry and Haye traveled to Tampa from Georgia about a week ago.
