Truck going wrong way on I-275 causes wreck

By Times Staff Writer

Two Tampa residents were transported to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg early Friday, after a woman driving the wrong way on Interstate 275 near the Gandy Boulevard ramp crashed head-on into another vehicle.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say Celeste A. Monje, 38, of 4108 Brentwood Park Circle, was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup south in the northbound center lane of I-275 at 12:37 a.m. when she hit a northbound 2006 Chevrolet driven by Duverney P. Porras, 36, of 5523 Baywater Drive.

Both vehicles rolled over several times, and the Chevrolet caught fire, according to a Highway Patrol report.

Monje was wearing a seat belt; Porras was not, troopers said. Monje and Porras are both in fair condition at Bayfront, hospital officials said.

Charges have not been filed, but the Highway Patrol is still investigating.
