Giants, Feely get a kick out of sweeping Eagles
Associated Press
Published December 12, 2005
PHILADELPHIA - Jay Feely kept his head down and maintained his focus while replays of his recent missed field goals were shown on the video screen during a timeout.
He'll watch this kick again.
Feely's 36-yarder 12:05 into overtime lifted the Giants, putting them closer to the NFC East title and knocking the Eagles out of the playoff chase.
Feely cost New York a victory in Seattle Nov.27 by missing three late kicks, but made all four of his attempts against the Eagles.
Feely never looked up to see his failures against the Seahawks on the giant video screen.
"The music was eerie so I figured they were playing something like that," Feely said. "I tried to visualize what I needed to do."
Osi Umenyiora sacked Mike McMahon and Kenderick Allen recovered McMahon's fumble at the Eagles 27, setting up Feely's winning kick four plays later. New York is one game ahead of Dallas in the East.
David Akers' 50-yard field goal with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter tied it at 23 after Sheldon Brown intercepted Eli Manning's pass. Manning was picked off three times in the fourth quarter and overtime.
NOTABLE: The Giants swept the Eagles for the first time since 2000.
