Mary M. Barrett was born Dec. 20, 1905, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Nicholas and Agatha (Petrunic) Novosel. She was baptized at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Cleveland.

Mary married John Samuel Barrett on April 30, 1928, in Cleveland. They had two sons, William, an actor in Pittsburgh, and Jack, a notable St. Petersburg artist. The family also lived for a time in Pittsburgh, Pa.

She kept house as she raised her sons. She enjoyed cooking, reading and playing cards.

Mary and her husband lived in Stuart, where he was a banker. John Samuel died Nov. 16, 1978.

Mary moved to St. Petersburg sometime in 1995.
