Hernando School Board

The Hernando County School Board on Tuesday:

By Times Staff Writer
Published December 15, 2005

Agreed to join a proposed lawsuit that the Florida School Boards Association may file against the state Department of Education. The association is suing over a new state regulation that seeks to phase out the use of coteaching as a way to meet the requirements of the state class-size amendment. The board will pay an initial fee of $2,500 to cover legal expenses.

Agreed to advertise for new legal representation to advise board members in certain employee discipline matters. In cases where School Board attorney Paul Carland aids district officials in prosecuting district employees, the new attorney would advise board members during disciplinary hearings and other proceedings. In the past, the School Board attorney has recommended another lawyer to serve as the board's adviser in those cases.
