The Florida Aquarium has an eye-catching visitor for the next few weeks: Jose Blanco, a rare white alligator. The gator with bright blue eyes is on loan from the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. Found as a hatchling by a fisherman in the Louisiana swamps in 1987, the alligator now weighs 250 pounds and is 10 feet long. But it's not an albino. The coloring is the result of a slightly different genetic mutation known as leucism.

Jose Blanco is on display in the wetlands area of the aquarium through March 15. The aquarium is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Dec. 25. Admission is $17.95 adults, $14.95 seniors, $11.95 ages 2 to 11, younger than 2 free. 813 273-4000; www.flaquarium.org
