One-way streets on way out of town

By Times Staff Writer

TAMPA - Construction workers have started turning Madison Street in downtown Tampa from a one-way street to two way. The $810,000 project is expected to be done in March.

Plans call for turning all east-west downtown streets that run between Ashley Drive and Pierce Streets from one way to two way over the next five years.

The work includes resurfacing, adding decorative crosswalks, installing traffic signals and signs, and rearranging parking spaces.

The project is part of a transportation plan that aims to make downtown more friendly to pedestrians.
