BRADENTON - Law enforcement agents seized 1,100 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $12.5-million in the largest drug bust in Manatee County history.
Agents conducting predawn raids Friday made 13 arrests in 13 locations, capping an 18-month investigation. They also seized $1 million in cash, believed to be drug proceeds, and several firearms.
Investigators said the drugs came from Mexico through supply lines in Texas and California.
"It is an organization - a very large group of men and women operating in several states," said E.J. Picolo, special agent in charge of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Fort Myers office.
Four alleged members of the ring were already in custody before Friday, and three have yet to be caught.
The accused face charges of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.
