3 arrested in beating of partially paralyzed woman

Police said roommates thought the victim, who was hit in the face with a trowel, had stolen money.

TAMPA - Police arrested three East Tampa people early Sunday morning and accused them of beating their roommate, a disabled woman.

The fight broke out because the roommates thought the woman, Anita Allie, 45, stole $25 they planned to use to pay the electricity bill, police said.

Allie, 45, told officers that the trio attacked her at 11:55 p.m. Saturday night at 4803 E Hillsborough Ave. Allie, who is partially paralyzed and uses a wheelchair, had shared the home with the three for three weeks, police records show.

Amanda Crosby, 19, Steven Kline, 65 and Samuel Shepard, 43, were each charged with one count of aggravated adult abuse. Kline allegedly struck the victim in the face with a metal trowel, according to the arrest affidavit. Crosby and Shepard repeatedly beat and kicked the woman, records show. Shepard, a construction worker, was also charged with resisting arrest.

The three defendants were held without bail late Sunday night at the Orient Road Jail.

Allie suffered severe facial injuries and was taken to Tampa General Hospital.
