HUDSON - A 77-year-old man was killed over the weekend after the vehicle he was traveling in went off the road, struck several objects and ejected him and the driver, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. John J. Casamento was a passenger in a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by 43-year-old David A. Casamento on Saturday night, the report said. The vehicle was headed east on Kitten Trail near Dennis Drive at 8:06 p.m. when it went off the south side of the road. The Explorer clipped a light pole and fence, spun and struck a tree. Neither man was wearing a seat belt; both were ejected from the SUV. John Casamento died of injuries from the crash; David Casamento of Oakwood Drive in Hudson was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. FHP Trooper Larry Coggins Jr. said Monday he didn't know how the men were related. Relatives reached at the Oakwood Drive home declined to comment.
