By Times Staff
Published December 20, 2005

Looking for some tasty alcohol-free drinks to serve to the designated drivers at your holiday get-togethers? How about some DOT punch? The Florida Department of Transportation and the local Community Traffic Safety Teams recently released their second annual edition of Recipes for the Road , a collection of nonalcoholic drink recipes gathered from popular restaurants throughout Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Citrus and Hernando counties. The goal of the recipe booklet, of course, is to promote safe and responsible driving during the holiday season. Recipes for the Road is available online at www.hcso.tampa.fl.us

Ruptured gas line forces rerouting of U.S. 19 traffic

CLEARWATER - Traffic in both directions on U.S. 19 was rerouted for 90 minutes Monday afternoon after a construction crew punctured a 4-inch gas line at the intersection with Drew Street, authorities said. No one was injured. The road crew struck the line on the northeast corner of the intersection at 2 p.m., said Clearwater Fire Marshal Joel Gray. No nearby businesses had to be evacuated, Gray said. The leak was sealed and the road reopened at 3:32 p.m. U.S. 19 carries 68,000 to 71,000 cars and trucks per day at that intersection, according to the Pinellas County Metropolitan Planning Organization.
