Police department seeking Christmas toys
TARPON SPRINGS - The Tarpon Springs Police Cops and Kids program is conducting its annual Christmas toy drive, which has provided gifts to more than 200 children from low-income families each year since 1991.
Department volunteers try to match donated toys to each child's letter to Santa. Individuals, civic groups and businesses donate new, unwrapped gifts for infants through teens, and some donate cash to help meet specific requests.
Interested donors can call police at (727) 938-2849 or drop by the station at 444 S Huey Ave.
Clothes to Kids charity in need of donations
CLEARWATER - As the weather cools, the Clothes to Kids charity finds itself in need of jackets and other warm clothes for Pinellas County schoolchildren from poor families.
Donations of clothes to the nonprofit organization are down, although administrators estimate they will serve 600 kids during December.
Last year, Clothes to Kids provided clothes for more than 3,300 children; this year, it expects to serve 4,600. It recently opened a 5,000-square-foot store at 1059 N Hercules Ave.
A $20 donation will buy a jacket; $35 will buy a child a week's worth of clothes. The organization also needs boys' long pants sizes 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12; girls' long pants sizes 12, 14 and 16; juniors' long pants sizes 5, 7, 9 and 11; and young men's long pants sizes 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28.
