Arson suspected in fire at Sulphur Springs duplex

By Times Staff Writer
Published December 22, 2005

TAMPA - Authorities are investigating a duplex fire they say was intentionally set in Sulphur Springs on Wednesday. The fire at 8406 N 16th St., a duplex apartment occupied by Katrina Conage and three children, began shortly before 1 p.m.

No one was injured. It took Tampa Fire Rescue workers about 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

An investigator with the Tampa Fire Marshal's Office determined the fire started in a storage room and was a case of arson.

"There was nothing in that storage room to have accidentally started a fire," said fire rescue spokesman Capt. Bill Wade.

The fire caused at least $15,000 in damage to Apartment B, where Conage lived. The adjacent apartment sustained minimal damage.
