Inside information

An old favorite with a twist

By JOHN FLEMING
Published December 22, 2005

Last-minute buyers of stocking stuffers have a musical option in a CD just released by the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay and the Florida Orchestra.

Recorded in May at the Springs Theatre in Tampa, it's a performance of a number that has been popular during chorus and orchestra holiday concerts the past few years, A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas, a clever arrangement of the carol by Craig Courtney. The idea is to set the partridge in a pear tree, the calling birds, the maids a-milking, the lords a-leaping and all the rest in musical styles ranging from Gregorian chant to a Sousa march. Running about 12 minutes, the disc costs $5, with discounts on orders of three or more. It's available at the orchestra's ticket center, 101 S Hoover Blvd., suite 100, Tampa. (813) 286-2403 or toll-free 1-800-662-7286.
