INVERNESS - A plea deal is in the works for Amy Lilley, the former Lecanto High School teacher who admitted having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student, Lilley's attorney said.
"I think we have this worked out," Michael Blackstone told Circuit Judge Ric Howard on Thursday. He said Assistant State Attorney Rich Buxman is preparing the plea agreement. Howard set a hearing for Jan. 19, but that date could be moved up.
After the hearing, Blackstone declined to comment further on the possible plea deal or what was discussed during a private bench conference with him, a prosecutor and the judge. Buxman was not at Thursday's hearing and could not be reached for comment later.
Lilley, who was not in court Thursday, was arrested at the school Nov. 1 and charged with lewd and lascivious battery, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison. She has resigned from her teaching job and is free on bail while awaiting trial.
