Madison lanes to close in switch to two-way street

DOWNTOWN - Two northbound lanes of Madison Street, from Ashley Drive to Pierce Street, are closed for construction while crews convert Madison to a two-way street.

Madison is the first of several one-way streets the city plans to convert to two-way streets over the next five years.

Once complete, the streets will include decorative crosswalks to emphasize pedestrian use at five major intersections.

City transportation officials estimate the Madison project will cost $810,000. It is expected to be done in March.
