One of three men sought in a series of robberies of businesses in Clearwater, Largo and the gulf beaches has been arrested in Tampa, Pinellas County sheriff's officials said Thursday.

Tampa police arrested Angelo Peoples, 53, of Tampa on Sunday on a variety of charges, including a Pinellas County grand theft warrant. He was being held at the Hillsborough County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail Thursday.

A second suspect, Ronnie L. Simmons, 56, of Tampa, and an unidentified third man were still being sought. Officials say the three have stolen more than $1,000 from Pinellas County businesses by distracting cashiers and then reaching into cash registers. The latest incident occurred Nov. 21 at Caparele Pool & Supply at 12301 Seminole Blvd.

The men were last seen driving a three-door silver 2000 Daewoo with Florida license plate S48 6EP. Anyone with information about these suspects is asked to contact Detective Jeremy Nygren at (727) 582-6200 or Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-873-8477.
