LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Hurt by weak shooting in the second half, No. 11 Louisville compensated at the foul line and Taquan Dean finished with 15 points in a 56-48 victory Saturday over surprisingly tough Detroit.
The Cardinals (9-1) won their 12th straight home game despite shooting just 38 percent from the floor, including 28 percent in the second half.
Brandon Jenkins added 12 points for Louisville.
Brandon Cotton led the Titans (6-7) with 17 points, but Detroit couldn't keep the Cardinals off the free-throw line.
Louisville outscored the Titans 16-5 from the line, including four straight from guard Brad Gianiny in the final minute after the Titans had closed to within five.
McKie's number retired
B.J. McKie, South Carolina's all-time leading scorer, will have his No. 3 jersey retired before the Gamecocks play Pittsburgh on Wednesday. The ceremony will feature a video tribute and a few words from McKie, a South Carolina native and former three-time All-Southeastern Conference standout.
McKie scored 2,119 points in 123 games with South Carolina and was an honorable mention Associated Press All-American in 1998.
