Students of the Month for December selected

A cheerleader who likes to fly planes and a guitarist who likes to produce concerts have excelled in academics.

Crystal River High School and West Citrus Elks Lodge No. 2693 have announced the Students of the Month for December: Dawn Hans and Spencer Neff .

Dawn, 18, has her pilot's license and is president of the Crystal River High School National Honor Society. A four-year varsity cheerleader, Dawn is now cheerleading captain. She was Student Government vice president for two years and its president one year. She is a Link Leader, a pianist and a member of the Gulf to Lake Church. Dawn is on the National Honor Roll and has received the Gulf Coast All Conference All Academic Award for three years. She was a member of the homecoming court and has been accepted at the University of South Florida, where she plans to study optometry. She has performed 200 hours of community service and has a 4.2 grade point average. Dawn is the daughter of Paul and Stephanie Hans.

Spencer, 18, has been on the varsity academic team and was a student government representative. He is a guitarist in the Alternative Rock Band and has been concert producer for Neffer's Bowling while in high school. He is a member of the National Honor Society and on the Principal's Honor Roll. Spencer is a Telleride Association Finalist. His 58 hours of community service include work as a REACH Camp counselor, as a math tutor and in new voter registration. Spencer has a GPA of 4.3. He would like to attend Dartmouth College or Boston University to study math, economics or engineering. Spencer is the son of Steve and JeremyNeff.
