Excerpts from those who spoke about James Dungy:

"He was a mama's boy, he really was. He loved me, but he loved his mom."

- TONY DUNGY

"We know that while we had him for 18 short years, that God's got him now, and he's going to have him forever."

- TONY DUNGY

"You are forever and always etched in my heart."

- EBONE SINGLETARY, 19, daughter of the Rev. Jeffery Singletary. She said Dungy made sure everything was perfect - from the car's temperature to their outfits in matching pink - when he took her to her senior prom.

"James was received by me as more than a friend - as the big brother I always wanted."

- DEONTE HAMPTON, a classmate from North Central High School in Indianapolis. He said Dungy helped him study to get his first A ever on a math test.

"James had a servant's heart."

- DARYL WARD, Idlewild Baptist Church youth department leader. He said Dungy was deeply touched by the children he ministered to on a five-day mission trip to Jamaica. After that trip, Ward said he was "on fire for the Lord."

"He was always, "Yes, sir. No, sir. Yes, ma'am. No, ma'am.' You can tell when kids come from good stock."

- THE REV. JEFFERY SINGLETARY, Central Campus pastor, Idlewild Baptist Church
