Animal control officer earns statewide honor

By ANDREW MEACHAM
Published December 30, 2005

BRANDON - Loretta Bradley, an animal control officer known as "the little pit bull" for her aggressive handling of abuse cases, has acquired another sobriquet: top dog in the state.

The Florida Animal Control Association, at its recent annual meeting in St. Petersburg, named Bradley its Animal Control Officer of the Year.

The officer wrote more than 500 citations in 2005. In her 14 years with Hillsborough County's Animal Control Department, she has served as lead investigator in 30 reports of animal cruelty.

One of her investigations resulted in a four-year prison sentence handed down this month.

Bradley's boss, Hillsborough Animal Services Director Bill Armstrong, was nominated to serve another term as the association's president.
