CRYSTAL RIVER - Sheriff's deputies arrested a 27-year-old Melrose man early Friday morning after he was accused of holding a knife to a woman's throat while she was holding her infant son.

According to an arrest report, the woman said she was in a verbal argument with Jeffrey Scott Davis in the area of West Arms Drive when he held a double-bladed knife to her throat. She told deputies she was holding her son, who is less than one year old. According to the arrest report, a witness grabbed Davis, pulled him back and pushed him out the front door. By the time deputies arrived, Davis had fled.

Deputies and a canine team unsuccessfully searched for him in the area of West Arms Drive. About 3:25 a.m., according to the report, Davis contacted the victim and set up a meeting at the RaceTrac gas station on U.S. 19 in Crystal River. There, deputies arrested Davis, who resides at 7308 NW 221st St., Melrose. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse.
