PITTSBURGH - Sidney Crosby scored with 1:29 left in overtime to lift the Penguins past the Rangers 4-3 on Saturday. Crosby has three goals in two games and five goals and four assists in four games since being left off the Canadian Olympic team.
Tomas Surovy broke his stick but still one-timed a shot from the right point to put the Penguins up 3-2 with 5:47 left in the third. Surovy took a tripping penalty 1:10 later, allowing Fedor Tyutin to tie it with 3:22 left on a shot from the right point.
But during a power play, Michel Ouellet's shot from the left circle appeared to deflect off Tyutin to Crosby below the right circle. He wristed it inside the near post.
CAPITALS 4, FLYERS 3 (SO): Goals by Brian Willsie and Matt Pettinger won it for host Washington. The Flyers, without Simon Gagne, the league's leading scorer, because of the flu, rallied from 2-1 but gave up the tying goal to Willsie 8:54 into the third. Then in the third round of the shootout, Willsie beat Antero Niittymaki low to the stick side.
HURRICANES 5, CANADIENS 3: Rod Brind'Amour scored his second goal of the game with 1:52 left for host Carolina. Hurricanes goalie Martin Gerber stopped a penalty shot by Michael Ryder, but five seconds later, Montreal tied it on Andrei Markov's goal with 3:24 left in the third. Brind'Amour then took a pass from Erik Cole on the left side and tapped it past Jose Theodore.
WILD 4, CANUCKS 3: Rookie Kurtis Foster had a goal and an assist for host Minnesota, which has won six of eight. Matt Cooke put the Canucks up 1-0 6:19 into the second. But 21 seconds later, Todd White tied it with a low shot from just inside the blue line. Minnesota took the lead 34 seconds later when Wes Walz poked in a loose puck. Foster, in his 20th game, scored his sixth goal on a five-on-three to make it 3-1 with 9:04 left in the second.
KINGS 3, STARS 2: Mathieu Garon made 38 saves, including 15 in the third, for visiting Los Angeles. The Kings went up 2-0 6:41 into the second when Derek Armstrong converted Craig Conroy's pass through the crease. That ended Dallas' streak of 38 successful penalty kills.
AVS 5, COYOTES 2: Ian Laperriere scored twice for visiting Colorado. Pierre Turgeon put the Avs up 3-1 1:33 into the third by tipping Rob Blake's shot. Then 2:11 later, Laperriere's shot from the slot beat Curtis Joseph low to the right side.
RED WINGS 5, BLUE JACKETS 2: Nicklas Lidstrom and Mikael Samuelsson scored for host Detroit. Blue Jackets starting goalie Pascal Leclaire left with a neck injury 1:53 into the second after Johan Franzen ran into him. His status is unknown.
LEAFS 6, DEVILS 3: Mariusz Czerkawski and Darcy Tucker scored 21 seconds apart in the second for visiting Toronto, which has won a season-best five straight.
DUCKS 5, BLUES 4 (SO): Chris Kunitz scored twice in regulation and had the only goal in a shootout for visiting Anaheim.
ISLANDERS: Goalie Rick DiPietro was diagnosed with a mild left knee sprain and is day to day. He was injured Friday during a goal-mouth scramble. Also, defenseman Alexei Zhitnik likely won't miss any time. He bruised his tailbone Friday when he slid backward into the boards.
SENATORS: Wing Daniel Alfredsson will miss at least a week after breaking a rib. He was hurt Friday when hit by the shot of teammate Zdeno Chara.
