Products recalled for their hazard potential

Compiled by SUZANNE PALMER
Published January 2, 2006

The following products, distributed nationwide and in Florida, were recalled between Dec. 24 and Dec. 29.

2,800 Novara Dirt Rider 20-inch five-speed and six-speed bicycles from Recreational Equipment Inc. Their alloy frame can be prone to metal fatigue that causes separation of the fork, head tube and handlebar from the rest of the bike. These children's bicycles have 20-inch wheels, an aluminum frame and multiple speeds. The 2003-2004 model-year bicycles were red/black or silver/blue frost in color; 2005-2006 model-year bicycles were black/gravel or white/powder blue in color and sold in REI stores and catalogs from October 2002 through November 2005 for between $125 and $210 depending on model year. Stop using these bicycles and return them to the nearest REI store for a full refund or credit or call toll-free 1-800-426-4840; www.rei.com

4600 Michelin Pilot sport tires. The tires may develop a blister in the sidewall that leads to rapid air loss. Size 255/365ZR20 97Y extra-load tires were sold as replacements and imported on some Jaguar X18 vehicles. The affected tires have dot tire identification numbers that begin with dot FHPNEFMX and end with one of these two digits: 00, 01, 02, 03 or 05. Michelin will notify owners and replace tires free of charge beginning Jan. 16. Contact Michelin Customer Relations toll-free at 1-800-847-3435.

8000 All Tripac Auxiliary Power Units from Thermo King. APU's circuit protection is not adequate to protect against electrical faults. Tripac Tier 1 serial numbers ranging from 023D00A001 to 065D02A022 and Tier 2 serial numbers ranging from 0453TC0001 to 1153TC5116 were installed as aftermarket equipment on heavy trucks. Dealers will retrofit the APU with a new fuse kit free of charge. Owners may contact Thermo King at (952) 887-2396.
