Buying that first house? Get some helpful hints

LECANTO - The Citrus County Division of Housing Services and Extension Services is offering free First Time Home Buyers classes from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Jan. 12 in Room 280 of the Lecanto Government Building, 3600 W Sovereign Path. Classes cover all aspects of qualifying, buying and maintaining a home. Any person who requires a special accommodation for a disability is asked to call in advance. Tax assistance program looking for volunteers

Volunteers are needed to provide free tax assistance to low- and middle-income residents of Citrus County for the upcoming tax season. This is a rewarding experience, and volunteers receive free Internal Revenue Service tax training in January. There also are opportunities for volunteers as client coordinators and support personnel. AARP TAX-AIDE is administered by the AARP Foundation and the IRS.

WTI accepts applications for its daytime programs

INVERNESS - The Withlacoochee Technical Institute is now accepting applications for the full- or part-time day programs listed. Classes meet from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Jan. 10. Program costs listed are per semester and semesters are based on full-time registered students. Books and supplies are an additional fee. Financial aid is available for students who qualify. Job placement opportunities are offered for completing students. A high school diploma is not required, and programs are approved for veterans training.
