Third victim dies in murder-suicide

The daughter of a woman who was shot dies from injuries.

TAMPA - A violent interstate domestic dispute that took two lives Saturday claimed its third life Sunday.

Taryn Bowman, the 22-year-old daughter of Aileen Nicholaou, died at Tampa General Hospital overnight, a nursing supervisor said. Bowman was critically wounded Saturday when Michael Nicholaou tracked down his estranged wife, Aileen, in West Tampa and shot the two women before killing himself.

Bowman was living in Town 'N Country, Tampa police spokesman Joe Durkin said, and she brought Michael Nicholaou to her mother, although it was unclear why. Aileen Nicholaou had fled Georgia to escape her husband's battering.

"We don't know if he forced her at gunpoint or if she brought him willingly," Durkin said. "It's just a tragic set of circumstances."

The police are not investigating the case any further.

According to reports, Aileen Nicholaou ran from her Georgia home and her husband, who had beaten her and broken her shoulder, about a month ago. Her husband tracked her down at her sister's home at 3321 W Walnut St. and went there, armed, just after noon Saturday.

The sister, Audrey Leon, called police. Officers went inside the home and saw Michael Nicholaou point a gun at them before slamming a bedroom door in their faces. As they pulled back, they heard at least two gunshots.

After failing to contact Michael Nicholaou by phone, the police went inside and found the husband and wife dead, the daughter severely wounded with a gunshot to the head.

A woman at the Walnut Street house Sunday refused to discuss the events.

A records search shows that the couple had several recent addresses both in and out of Florida. Records also indicate that Michael Nicholaou had a criminal history, including a 1998 conviction in Pasco County for property damage, and a 1995 Virginia misdemeanor arrest for concealment of merchandise.

He also was arrested in Hillsborough County in 2001 on a warrant for passing a worthless check. The outcome of that case was not available.
