Juvenile facility officer accused of molestation

By Times Staff Writer

TAMPA - A juvenile detention officer who works at a Department of Juvenile Justice residential facility in Brandon is being held in the county jail, accused of molesting two adolescent girls multiple times over a 15-month period.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said the abuse "had nothing to do with" Hillsborough Detention Center East, the juvenile justice facility where Rafael Beltran has worked since July 2004.

Beltran, 36, was arrested Thursday evening at 700 E Twiggs St., the building in downtown Tampa that houses the public defender's office and the Children's Advocacy Center, according to jail records. He is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation on a victim under 18.

The girls told investigators that Beltran touched them "multiple" times between September 2004 and December 2005, Carter said.
