Man allegedly pursued sex with girl, using computer

TAMPA - A Lakeland man who authorities say used an online computer service intending to lure a 14-year-old girl into sex was arrested in Brandon Saturday on computer pornography charges.

Kurt Louis Rhode, 48, began online sexual conversations with what he thought was a minor girl on Oct. 11, a Hillsborough sheriff's spokeswoman said. On Jan. 7, he made plans to meet the girl near Interstate 75 and Brandon Boulevard, where he was met instead by law enforcement officials who arrested him.

Polk County deputies searched Rhode's Lakeland home and seized computer equipment. Rhode is also believed to have a residence in Michigan. Michigan state police are investigating his activities there.

Rhode was being held Tuesday at Orient Road Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
