Unlicensed driver charged after crash injures five

TAMPA - A woman driving without a license caused a two-vehicle collision along U.S. 92 in Plant City that sent five people, including two infants, to hospitals Tuesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Andrea Gomez, 20, of 27-B Barron Drive in Plant City was driving a 1996 Mercury Sable station wagon north on Tanner Road. She does not have a driver's license, said Trooper Larry Coggins.

She had three passengers in the car: 2-month-old Eneth Francisco, 8-month-old John Gonalez and Maria Baltazar, 30. Gomez turned onto U.S. 92 into the path of an eastbound 1994 Mazda Protege driven by Mica G. Quirino, 18, of 3706 Moores Lake Road in Dover, Coggins said. The cars collided and spun around.

No one involved suffered life-threatening injuries, he said. But paramedics took Gomez to Tampa General Hospital, along with all three passengers. Coggins said Eneth, the 2-month-old, suffered a broken arm. Quirino was taken to South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City.

Troopers charged Gomez with violating the right of way and driving without a license.

U.S. 92 was closed in both directions until 10:30 a.m.
