SEARCH FOR THE TOP DOGS
What makes a champion dog? That's what more than 2,600 canines are going to find out at the annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Saturday and Sunday in Tampa. During the day, spectators can watch conformation, obedience and agility trials from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and meet the breeds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tampa Convention Center, 311 Franklin St. S. At 7:30 both evenings, the championships take place in the St. Pete Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive. The championships air on Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel live at 8 each night. Admission of $20 for adults, $17 for seniors and military and $7 for children for the evening shows allows free access to the daytime events. Two-day passes are $29, $24 and $13. KITES CATCH THE BREEZE
For high-flying competition, check out the Treasure Island Kite Festival Saturday and Sunday with its aerial ballets, single-, dual- and quad-line kite contests and giant kite battles. CELEBRATING THE MANATEE
Crystal River celebrates the state's gentle giants with its Florida Manatee Festival Saturday and Sunday. The fete includes a juried art show, information about manatees, boat tours of Kings Bay and kids activities.
