Miami-Dade jail escapee recaptured

Associated Press
Published January 13, 2006

MIAMI - An inmate who escaped Tuesday from the same jail complex where a serial rape suspect used a rope of bedsheets to flee last month was recaptured Thursday, police said.

Rodney T. Buckles, 25, was caught at a Miami-Dade County home where he was hiding, county police spokeswoman Joanne Duncan said. Police said Buckles apparently scaled at least one razor-wire fence at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was being held on a misdemeanor domestic violence battery charge.

The serial rape suspect, Reynaldo E. Rapalo, was recaptured six days after his escape.

Because of the escapes, corrections officers have begun confiscating contraband clothing from the jail's high-security wings. Inmates on the eighth-floor wings are now allowed only underwear, flip-flops, exercise shorts and a jumpsuit.
