Investigation begins into fatal Navy jet crash

LaFAYETTE, Ga. - A Navy investigative team arrived Thursday at the crash site of a military jet that went down during a low-level bomb training mission, killing the four aviators aboard.

The scattered debris was discovered late Wednesday in a heavily wooded area of northwest Georgia by a State Patrol helicopter using infrared technology.

The four were identified as Navy Lt. Jason E. Manse, 30, of Canton, Ohio; Ensign Elizabeth Bonn, 23, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Air Force 1st Lt. Jason W. Davis, 28, of Vista, Calif.; and retired Navy Cmdr. Dave Roark, 68, a contract pilot from Pensacola.

Murder conviction for Kennedy cousin upheld

NORWALK, Conn. - The Connecticut Supreme Court has upheld Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel's murder conviction, according to the victim's mother, who said she was notified of the decision by prosecutors.

Skakel, a nephew of Ethel Kennedy, was convicted in 2002 of bludgeoning his neighbor, Martha Moxley, to death with a golf club in 1975. Skakel is serving 20 years to life in prison.

La. crashes kill one

CARENCRO, La. - A series of crashes on a fog-shrouded interstate Thursday killed one person and shut down Interstate 49 north of Lafayette, La.

John Chavis, 54, of Opelousas, La., died when his car caught fire after striking a semitrailer truck.
