iddle schoolers accused of having knives at school

By Times Staff Writer

INVERNESS - Two middle school students were arrested in separate incidents Friday after authorities say the boys brought a knife to campus.

The students, whose names were not released because they are minors, were taken to the Citrus County jail and later released to their families. One boy, a 12-year-old Inverness Middle School student, is accused of brandishing a large pocketknife with a 3-inch blade. Two other students saw him and reported him to a teacher, authorities said.

The teacher pulled the student aside and confiscated the knife after the boy admitted carrying it in his pocket. The second student, a 14-year-old Lecanto Middle School student, was arrested after he admitted to staff members that he was carrying a collapsible knife. The school district has a zero-tolerance policy on weapons, including knives, meaning the boys could face expulsion. School officials could not be reached for comment late Friday.
