Man accused of fleeing, resisting before arrest

NEW PORT RICHEY - A New Port Richey man faces charges of resisting arrest with violence after he fled from a sheriff's corporal, grabbed the officer's gun and put him in a headlock, authorities said.

Richard Joseph Nole, 38, was at his 4451 Terry Loop home Thursday when Cpl. Bennie Barrington of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office tried to serve Nole four warrants from Pinellas and Pasco counties, a report said.

Nole broke out a large window at his home and fled 150 yards before entering Number One Salon, 5124 Trouble Creek Road, and hiding in the salon's restroom, the report said. Three employees and two customers were in the salon at the time.

When Barrington caught up with Nole in the salon, the tree trimmer for Nature's First Tree Service was informed that he had warrants for his arrest. Nole then pushed Barrington and grabbed his flashlight and threw it, the report said.

Nole put Barrington in a headlock and took the officer's handgun, which was still holstered, the report said.

Barrington retrieved the handgun from Nole and threatened him with deadly force, the report said. Nole then stopped resisting arrest.

After he was read his rights, the corporal wrote in his report that Nole "apologized and said he never meant to fight with me."

Nole is being held at the Land O'Lakes Detention Center on $13,000 bail.
