LOS ANGELES - The Washington Huskies are learning to love the road.
After consecutive Pac-10 losses at home, they came away with two wins in Southern California, including their first victory at Pauley Pavilion in nearly 19 years.
Bobby Jones pulled down a key rebound and made three free throws in the final seconds Saturday to give No. 13 Washington a 69-65 victory over No. 11 UCLA.
Washington overcame a 12-point halftime deficit, shooting 64 percent in the second half for its first win at Pauley Pavilion since Jan. 29, 1987.
"After not winning here for so long, it feels like a big, old accomplishment," Jones said. "Now hopefully we can take this back to Seattle."
NO. 7 ILLINOIS 79, MICHIGAN 74: Illinois led by one with 17 seconds remaining when Warren Carter went to the free-throw line after getting fouled under Michigan's basket.
"I knew as soon as I got fouled that I was going to make those free throws," said Carter, who was shooting 63 percent from the line this season.
Both shots swished and the host Illini had all they would need to hold off the Wolverines for their 31st consecutive win at the Assembly Hall, a run that started on Jan. 17, 2004, and ties the school record set between Jan. 15, 1984 and Jan. 4, 1986.
Dee Brown scored 26 and James Augustine added 23 as Illinois withstood Michigan's second-half charge. Illinois led 69-60 after Brown hit his fourth straight 3-pointer with 7:04 to go, but Daniel Horton brought the Wolverines back with an eight-point outburst that made it 69-68.
NO. 5 MEMPHIS 73, SMU 53: Joey Dorsey had 13 points and eight rebounds and the host Tigers got off to a strong start. Memphis, which won its fourth straight, opened with an 18-2 run and never led by fewer than 10 the rest of the way. Carney hit 6-of-9 from the field, and Memphis shot 51 percent. Bryan Hopkins scored 19 for the Mustangs, who shot 37 percent and committed 15 turnovers.
NO. 17 GW 82, SAINT JOSEPH'S 70: Carl Elliott scored a career-high 20 and host George Washington used stifling defense to pull away. GW never trailed and led by as many as 21. The Colonials took a 14-5 lead, then held Saint Joseph's scoreless for nearly 6 minutes during a 12-0 run that made it 32-13. It was a welcome breather for GW, which rallied from second-half deficits to win its previous two games in overtime.
NO. 21 WIS. 68, NORTHWESTERN 52: Once the host Badgers showed patience, they found their offense. Alando Tucker had 20 points and seven rebounds and the Badgers overcame a slow start to remain the only unbeaten team in Big Ten play. Wisconsin used a first-half flurry to build a double-digit lead, went on another run in the second half to put it away and forced 19 turnovers.
NO. 22 OKLAHOMA 45, TEXAS A&M 44: Terrell Everett saved Oklahoma from another narrow Big 12 loss. Everett hit a 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds left to help the visiting Sooners avoid an 0-3 start in the league. The Sooners lost their first two conference games by a total of three points, both decided in the closing seconds. Acie Law scored 14 points for the Aggies, who lost for the first time in 12 home games this season.
OREGON 73, NO. 24 ARIZONA 68: Malik Hairston scored 23 to lead the Ducks as Arizona was swept on the Oregon trip for the first time since 2000. Aaron Brooks added 17 for Oregon, which shot 55 percent. Ivan Johnson, in his first game since serving a two-game suspension, put the Ducks up for good with a driving jumper in the lane that made it 66-64 with 3 minutes to play.
