State Senate president: Crist's PSC tactics unnecessary

By JONI JAMES

Senate President Tom Lee made clear Thursday he's no big fan of Republican Attorney General Charlie Crist's recent interventions with the Public Service Commission, even though both of them have worked to keep consumers' phone bills from increasing.

Lee, a Valrico Republican, told reporters his chamber will make it a priority this year to improve funding for the Legislature's Office of Public Counsel, which represents consumers before the PSC, because he is tired of the Attorney General's Office stealing the limelight.

"If properly funded, (the Public Counsel staff) can hire the experts they need to adequately do the job without having to be on the front page of the newspaper to make sense out of doing it," Lee said.
