Grenade discovery creates a stir in Oldsmar

By Times Staff
Published January 16, 2006

OLDSMAR - The Hillsborough County Bomb Squad was sent to an Oldsmar neighborhood after a group of children found a grenade.

Personnel from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and fire department responded to the southwest corner of Meridan and Huron avenues at 4:47 p.m. Sunday.

The bomb squad was requested and they determined the pineapple-shaped grenade was inert. Bomb squad members said the grenade was the type that could be bought from a military surplus store.

About 25 residents were evacuated for an hour while the situation was investigated.
