Lutz man charged after leaving scene of crash

TAMPA - Deputies arrested a Lutz man they said hit a pedestrian then left the scene of the accident early Sunday.

David Rolando Reyna, 24, of 2260 Groveland Drive, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and violation of probation.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said that just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Reyna was driving east on Debuel Road in Lutz when he hit James Thomas Bailey, 47, of 1906 Blind Pond Ave., Lutz. Reyna kept driving, Carter said.

Bailey was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was in critical condition Sunday.

Deputies spent Sunday afternoon looking for a large vehicle, possibly a truck or an SUV, missing a black side mirror.

A deputy on patrol saw Reyna's 2005 Ford F150 at a home in Lutz and stopped to ask him about the accident. He was then arrested and charged.

Carter said that Reyna was on probation for selling, manufacturing and delivering cocaine.

Jail records show Reyna has been arrested in Hillsborough County at least six other times since 2002. Previous arrests have multiple reckless driving and DUI charges.
