To: Mayor Hibbard, City Council and the Citizens of Clearwater:
I would like to address the recent issues concerning a real estate transaction that I participated in while serving as Mayor. I have learned that what would be considered a "technical violation" of city code occurred after I placed my reservation for a unit. I voted on a consent agenda item that included the final platting of this complex and didn't disclose that I had a reservation. It is my understanding that this was a "ministerial" procedure, which I was required to vote on since it was well after all entitlements to the project were granted. I would like to assure everyone that my failure to
disclose was an oversight and not done with any intent to deceive. For this honest mistake -- I apologize. The penalty for a code violation of this nature is a fine. I would like to offer to write a check of $5,000 to the city. May I suggest that this be presented to a local non-profit organization within the city?
My family and I served the city of Clearwater for six years. We served with absolute devotion and dedication. This has been a difficult time for us and for our family and friends. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many people who have been so tremendously supportive to us through their thoughts, prayers and kind words. Thank you.
