Photos: Gearing up for Gasparilla

The raucous Gasparilla invasion and parade are next week, but youngsters and those who want a tamer celebration have their fun Saturday with the Gasparilla Children's Parades and Piratechnic Extravaganza.

There's a preschooler stroll at 12:30 p.m. along Bayshore Boulevard between W Barcelona Street and S Howard Avenue. The children's parade begins at 3:30 and runs along Bayshore between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and S Rome Avenue. There are two "air invasions," one at 2 p.m. and one at 6. The 23-minute "Piratechnic" fireworks extravaganza, re-creating the fictional sea battle between city of Tampa and Pirates of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, begins at 6:30. It will be visible from Bayshore and other spots downtown. It's all free, but there are reserved seats for the parade for $12. 813 353-8108; www.gasparillaextravaganza.com
