Homeowner takes steps to keep animals

PALM RIVER: The chickens have come home to roost for Lidia Pineda, who was cited by code investigators for her animals at her S 36th Avenue home.

In November, Pineda received a notice from investigators that she was violating her residential zoning by keeping horses, geese and chickens on her property.

Pineda wrote to the Department of Planning and Growth Management, saying she did not know having animals violated the zoning code.

Now, she wants to rezone the 2.5-acre property to agricultural, which would allow her to keep the animals. The Planning Commission has reviewed Pineda's petition and found it consistent with the county's comprehensive plan.

The zoning hearing master heard the case Tuesday. It goes before the County Commission on March 7. (PETITION 06-0227)

WIMAUMA: Another residential development could spring up east of U.S. 301, a rapidly growing area. Moshe Azoulay is asking for a rezoning of just under 6 acres extending north from Bill Tucker Road, from agricultural to residential.

Azoulay wants to create a subdivision. The Planning Commission supports the development as consistent with the comprehensive plan.

The case came before the zoning hearing master on Tuesday. County commissioners will hear it March 7. (PETITION 06-0307)

SEFFNER: Parsons Woods, a proposed subdivision, is coming closer to reality. Property owner Myrtle Stewart is asking for a rezoning from agricultural to a planned development east of N Parsons Avenue at Sheryl Lynn Drive.

Parsons Woods would consist of 100 houses on lots each 60 feet wide. The Planning Commission called the proposal consistent with the county's comprehensive plan, but recommended that developers coordinate the project with the Hillsborough County School Board to prevent overcrowding.

Twelve neighbors also lodged objections against Parson Woods, saying that it would bring additional traffic onto their streets.

The case before the zoning hearing master was continued to Feb. 14. A rescheduled County Commission date will be announced. (PETITION 06-0102)
