INVERNESS - A Citrus High School student was arrested Tuesday after being accused of bringing a gun on school grounds, according to a Citrus County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Joshua Trent Winfrey, 18, of 1313 Eden Drive was arrested at 12:14 p.m. on a charge of possession of a firearm on school property, according to the report.

Investigators say Winfrey had a 9mm Highpoint handgun and 50 bullets in his Mustang in the school lot.

He said he purchased it for $200 Monday in the Inverness Highlands, according to the report. On Tuesday, he bought a clip and bullets at Dan's Gun Room.

He was taken to the Citrus County jail. Bail was set at $5,000.
