Armwood adds two to D-I pool

Armwood is sending two more football players to Division I-A programs. Wide receiver/safety Lance Tillison has committed to Iowa while defensive tackle Jake Cross is headed to Navy.
Tillison (6-foot-1, 200 pounds), who transferred to Armwood last fall after his school in Slidell, La., was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, also considered West Virginia. A broken foot kept him from playing in the regular season, but he came up big down the stretch. In Armwood's 37-34 win against Miami Washington in the Class 4A semifinals, he caught the winner with eight seconds left, an over-the-shoulder catch on a fade.
"We feel like the kid has nowhere near scratched the surface," Hawks coach Sean Callahan said.
Cross (6-1, 285), a three-year starter, chose Navy over Air Force and Western Kentucky. At Armwood, he played for two state championship teams and one state runnerup. He lost three games in three years, and one was by forfeit.
"I think he's going to do well," Callahan said.
