Prospective college students and their parents or guardians can attend a free, informational session on completing financial aid paperwork at College Goal Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 19, at St. Petersburg College Seminole Campus, 9200 113th St. N. Financial aid experts, primarily from state colleges and universities, will be on hand to help students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the federal government's form used to calculate financial need and required by colleges to determine eligibility for aid.

This is the first year Florida is taking part in the College Goal Sunday initiative, which began in 1989 in Indiana to try to reach out to students and parents who were not aware of financial aid opportunities. Since then, the program has been expanded to include 25 states and the District of Columbia. The Florida initiative is a partnership between the Foundation for Florida's Community Colleges, the Florida Department of Education and the Lumina Foundation for Education.

For information on what to bring with you, visit the Web site at www.floridacollegegoal.com or call Marcia McConnell, district director of scholarships and student financial assistance at 791-2442.
