Teachers close the book on intelligent design.

A book mentioning intelligent design had been under consideration for use in Hillsborough County public schools.

Intelligent design will not be coming to a Hillsborough County public school near you.

The district's science teachers put the kibosh Thursday on a new textbook under consideration that included a brief description of intelligent design -- the belief that a supernatural being created life on Earth.

Hillsborough secondary science supervisor Nancy Johnson Marsh said no teacher mentioned intelligent design as a reason for their final selection.

"My teachers look at the total book and they pick the book they feel" best meets the state's science standards, she said.
