Bowling
USBC to look at everything about first year
By ERIC MUSKATEVC
Published January 27, 2006
Jan.1 marked the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Bowling Congress, an organization serving nearly 3-million adult and youth bowlers.
Officially recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport, USBC has enjoyed its share of success over the past year.
Some of the challenges that resulted from the largest nonprofit merger in U.S. history included incorrect or average membership cards, the initial mishandling of proposed ball specifications and getting members to embrace the new awards program.
To commemorate this major milestone and acknowledge the fact there is more that has to be addressed to make bowling more popular and serve the bowlers of America, USBC has created a special anniversary section on its Web site, www.bowl.com
"USBC takes its responsibility to bowling seriously," USBC Chief Executive Officer Roger Dalkin said.
"While there have been literally thousands of actions and decisions made over the first year of USBC, we felt it only appropriate to provide a general synopsis of the year: the good, the bad and the ugly."
Bowlers can send their praises, complaints and success stories to firstyearfeedback@bowl.com

Norm Duke (Clermont) continues to lead the World Point Rankings despite failing to make match play in his past three standard events.
Wes Malott (Austin, Texas) is second and advanced to the round of 16 in seven of nine standard events this season. Lefty Mike Scroggins (Amarillo, Texas), who led after the first half, was third.

DROUGHT: Walter Ray Williams Jr. (Ocala) has failed to advance to a televised final in his past 17 events, but that's nowhere near his longest slump.

As the Tour enters its 13th event this season, the latest Williams has made his TV debut in a season was 1999, when he did it in the 15th event, the Tucson Open.
