Republicans, Democrats plan dinners

The local Democratic and Republican parties are gearing up for their annual celebrations.

The Citrus County Democratic Party will host its annual Democratic Unity Dinner at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Citrus Springs Community Center, 1570 W Citrus Springs Blvd.

The keynote speaker will be gubernatorial candidate and state Sen. Rod Smith, D-Alachua.

The dinner will include speeches by other Democratic candidates, including District 5 U.S. representative candidates Richard John Penberthy, John T. Russell and H. David Werder; attorney general candidate Walter G. "Skip" Campbell Jr.; and agriculture commissioner candidate Eric Copeland.

The Citrus County Republican Executive Committee will host the annual Republican Lincoln Day Dinner at 6 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Homosassa Elks Lodge, 7890 W Grover Cleveland Blvd.

The keynote speaker will either be Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson or state Sen. Ken Pruitt, R-Port St. Lucie, who is expected to be the next Senate president.
