BRANDON - A 19-year-old man was arrested Friday, accused of beating a man with a baseball bat in Wal-Mart parking lot.

Deputies say Justin Glen Woody of 4102 Silver Lane in Valrico struck Kristoffer Michael Riley, 22, with a bat. Woody then took the bat to Riley's truck, shattering a side window, denting the body and damaging the taillight, Hillsborough Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.

"It was basically over a girl," Carter said.

The incident happened at the Wal-Mart on 949 E Bloomingdale Ave. in Brandon on Thursday. Riley of 6007 Christy Lane in Riverview, received emergency medical attention for his injuries, Carter said. Damage to his vehicle is estimated at $1,000.

Woody was arrested at 9:15 a.m. Friday. He faces charges of criminal mischief and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and great bodily harm. He was being held at Orient Road Jail on Friday evening in lieu of $17,000 bail.

Woody was with another person, who is still at large.

According to Florida Law Enforcement, Woody has been arrested numerous times dating back to 2000 on charges including vehicle theft, aggravated assault and domestic violence. Jail records show that an aggravated battery arrest in July 2005 also involved a baseball bat.
