Today: FSU vs. Miami
By BRIAN LANDMAN
Published January 29, 2006
WHEN/WHERE: 4; Donald L. Tucker Center, Tallahassee.
TV/RADIO: Ch. 44; 1470-AM.
RECORDS: Miami 11-8, 3-3 ACC; FSU 12-4, 3-3.
COACHES: Miami - Frank Haith (27-21, second season); FSU - Leonard Hamilton (57-52, fourth season; 257-262 overall).
NOTABLE: With four of its next five at home, FSU must use this stretch to solidify its position in the top half of the ACC. ... Miami leads the ACC in scoring defense (61.8 points) and is second in field-goal percentage defense (39.6), but they may lack the quickness to stop FSU star junior Al Thornton (16.8 ppg). ... The Hurricanes have lost two straight. Junior guard Guillermo Diaz, the top scorer (16.2 ppg), was 2-for-14 from the field in Tuesday's loss at Virginia. Senior guard Robert Hite was 3 of 13 in that game. ... Still, they loom as a tough matchup defensively for the Seminoles, who have shown trouble stopping 3-point shooters; teams are shooting 36.6 percent from long range against them, second worst in the league. ... FSU leads the series 28-26, but the Hurricanes won both meetings last season.
